In honor of Valentine's day, and celebrating love, I am going to begin celebrating myself. I think that, every day, we pass by so many different beautiful (and not so beautiful) things that we brush off. But life is electric. Each moment should be a tiny jubilation for whatever is happening. Whether it is a moment of incredible pleasure, or one of deep pain, it deserves to be recognized and experienced for what it is. I want to live my life in constant observance and celebration.
Today I want to share with you some things that I found particularly celebratory:
I made heart shaped cupcakes today from scratch, as well as homemade icing that I dyed an array of colors. I later surprise delivered these cupcakes to some friends. Not only do I love baking, and find it cathartic, but I also love to make people happy. It was a 2 for 1 deal.
My 2 year old nephew, James, made me a valentine today. My mom cut it out, and he colored on it. He was so excited to give it to me that he didn't even wait until he was finished, just burst into the room, a ball of laughter and excitement. I spent most of my day curled up in an armchair, reading him books and playing with his hair.
I have a lot of friends who are obsessed with weight. And I'm not gonna lie, I can get sucked into all of that pretty often. But when I'm not counting calories and being disgusted by my appearance, I like to indulge myself. Today, it was Chef Boyardee following a plate of homemade nachos. Some call it eating your feelings. I call it delicious. I heated myself up a big bowl of processed meat and noodles, and ate them in aforementioned armchair. It was a good way to end the night (except for my ice cream I plan to have later...)
And, since it's Valentine's Day, I won't neglect the less than spectacular things I felt today. This song, for example. This weekend in particular, every time I heard the opening chords, something would ache in a hollow space inside my chest until I started crying, even if I had nothing to cry about. It's a painful feeling, but I celebrate it nonetheless. It's a part of life, therefore it is beautiful.
That's all I've got for today. Keep an eye out for the life exploding around you.
